The web should have won. Interaction. Typography. Search. Infinite space. Complete freedom. And yet most writing online is flatter than a paperback.
The problem
Writing gives thought a line. But thought is not a line. Ideas branch, support each other, contradict each other, and nest inside each other. When we force that structure into a single scroll, we lose most of it. What survives is the main argument, stripped of the texture that made it worth reading.
Books gave writing a page. The web gave writing links. Neither gave writing paths.
What Weave does
Weave is an open-source writing format for documents that preserve the shape of thought. A Weave document can hold sidenotes that float beside the argument, nodes that expand inline, overlays that surface context on demand, and references that bind sections into a navigable graph. The depth is there for whoever wants it. The main line stays readable for everyone else.
Structuring writing used to mean hours of manual work. Now it's just Markdown, so an LLM can restructure a flat draft in seconds. Weave makes the result worth publishing.
